Exco: 30 pct individuals above 18 have hypertension

SHAH ALAM, June 14 — Hypertension was discovered in 30 per cent of Malaysians aged 18 and up, says Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

The state executive councillor for public health said when blood pressure is consistently 140/90 mmHg or higher, the illness necessitates immediate medical intervention.

“Do you have a constant headache or dizziness? It’s possible that this is a sign of high blood pressure. Get yourself checked out right away. You can undergo health screening under the Selangor Saring programme.

“Taking proactive actions to prevent disease is best in taking care of our health. Early screening is one of the most effective ways to keep track of our health.,” she said on Facebook.

The free health screening initiative Selangor Saring began on May 22 and is held weekly at various locations that are updated on a regular basis.

The state government has set aside RM3.4 million for Selangor Saring, which is estimated to help up to 39,000 Selangor residents, especially those with a family history of illnesses, those who are obese, and those who live unhealthy lifestyles..

Running until September 4, the programme offers physical screenings, blood and urine tests, optical, cervical and breast cancer tests, as well as colorectal and prostate cancer tests.
