BANGI, June 19 — The Selangor Saring programme, which is run by the Selangor government, is deemed worthwhile since it gives comprehensive free health checks.

Senior citizen Abdul Rahman Talib, 65, said he took the opportunity to attend the programme held at Dewan Komuniti Seksyen 4 in Bandar Baru Bangi, here, yesterday, after seeing the poster shared in a WhatsApp group.

I hadn’t done a health screening in a long time, so when I learned that the state government was running this initiative, I went to get checked without giving it any thought.

The screening process is comprehensive, and thankfully, it is free, making it ideal for low-income people (B40) to know their health status,” he said when met by SelangorKini.

Meanwhile, housewife Zuridah Ramlan, 55, had commended the fast screening process and the fact that she didn’t have to wait as long as she would in a clinic or an outpatient health facility.

“Following the test, I quickly informed my siblings and close relatives to come here and check their health,”

she said.

Another participant, Muhammed Ibrahim Abdullah, said the state government’s programme is great, as it promotes a healthy culture in the community.

“I never had the opportunity to get my health checked since I never had the time, but today (yesterday), I took advantage of the opportunity and participated in Selangor Saring to learn about my health status,” said the 45-year-old trader.

The Selangor government has set up RM3.4 million to ensure the success of Selangor Saring, which would assist 39,000 residents, particularly those with a family medical history, obesity, or an unhealthy lifestyle.

Physical screening, blood and urine tests, eye, cervical and breast cancer, occult or colon faecal blood testing, and prostate tests are all available till September 4.

The free health screening programme is held in five state districts this week. On Saturday, the initiative was held in Dengkil and Sungai Ramal, and today it is being held in Sungai Pelek, Pandan Indah, and Teratai.
