Bantuan Sihat Selangor helps lighten the burden on caregivers

KUALA SELANGOR, July 3 — A single mother expressed her gratitude when her daughter who suffers from scoliosis (a sideways curvature of the spine) was selected as a recipient of Bantuan Sihat Selangor (BSS).

Azizah Hamid, 45, said the health aid from the state government has helped ease the burden of buying back support equipment for her youngest child Ross Syazwina Rossapizal, 14.

“I am very grateful to get the RM2,500 a year aid as it helped ease my burden to buy a scoliosis brace for her.

“Every month, we spent almost RM1,000 on treatment, medicine and hospital trips for her. Thank you Selangor state government. Hopefully, this health aid programme will continue,” she told SelangorKini.

Azizah along with another four recipients received the BSS aid from Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari during the Selangor Penyayang roadshow at Stadium Utama Kuala Selangor here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, G Latchimie, 28, who represented his father K Murugan, 52, to receive the same aid said the RM2,000 contribution was very helpful to cover the cost of dialysis treatment.

“My father has been suffering from kidney disease since 2017 and he receives BSS health aid every year. It helped ease our burden as a family in covering the cost of his treatment.

“I just hope the amount of aid could be increased because the cost of treatment has risen over time,” said Latchimie who is the only child of the family.

BSS was introduced in 2019 with the aim of easing the financial burden on the low-income group to cover the cost of health treatment for several types of diseases.

The programme is constantly improved by expanding the aid coverage to include eye cataract surgery, dialysis, minor surgeries and treatment of homebound patients.
