No assessment tax hike, Selangor to focus on reviving economy

SHAH ALAM, July 22 — The Selangor government has decided that there would be no increase in assessment tax in the state.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the matter was decided in the State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN) on July 13 after taking into account the current economic situation.

“MMKN has made a decision that there would be no increase in assessment tax in Selangor during this period when the people are still facing economic uncertainties.

“Its members also viewed the issues of the rising prices of goods and food inflation very seriously,” he said in a statement issued today.

Ng said the state government will continue on programmes to stimulate Selangor’s economy.

“The state government will continue to give focus on efforts to revive Selangor’s economy through programmes such as human capital development and creating packages to attract investment into the state thus increasing employment opportunities,” he said.

He said the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) which will be tabled in Selangor Legislative Assembly next week, will focus on stimulating economic growth towards realising the aim of creating a more resilient and sustainable living environment for the people in the state.

Ng added that the newly-improved welfare assistance Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas) initiative that was announced in the 2022 Selangor Budget is now being implemented to help 30,000 low-income families (B40) at the cost of RM108 million.

“As a caring government, any decision to enforce a review in new assessment tax rate by local authorities will take into account the living condition and welfare of the people in the state,” he said.
