SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Seven out of 12 Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) Scholarship recipients from Cohort One have obtained excellent results in their examination last year.

WBS chief executive officer Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki said the students had shown encouraging performance with an overall Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 and above.

She said 10 of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) recipients have furthered their studies at the diploma and bachelor’s degree level at the Open University Malaysia (OUM) while the rest continued their master’s degrees at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

“Congratulations to these students on their persistence and commitments in ensuring the opportunities given are not wasted. They are precious assets to the state government and hopefully, they could contribute later by serving the people in Selangor.

“I believe those who are given a chance could be successful in their own capacity,” she said when delivering her speech at the Wanita Berdaya Selangor Scholarship for Cohort Two presentation ceremony yesterday.

The scholarship presentation was conducted by the political secretary to the Menteri Besar, Juwairiya Zulkifli on behalf of Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Siti Kamariah said 13 out of 300 applicants were selected to receive scholarships to further their studies at several education levels after undergoing the screening and interview sessions.

“For those who have been selected, we hope they will study diligently. We will monitor their academic performance as we take the mandate to manage this fund seriously,” she added.

Launched in 2021, the WBS Scholarship is an initiative of the state government under the Women Development and Family Standing Committee, with WBS as the executing agency for the LLP in collaboration with OUM.

The LLP aims to provide women with knowledge and high competency through continuous education.
