Five state districts to see inclement weather until evening — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Aug 21 — Heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected for five Selangor districts until later this evening, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

In a statement issued at 3.50pm, the agency said the districts include Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat.

“Other states and territories which will be affected include Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Segamat in Johor, Limbang in Sarawak, Langkawi and Kubang Pasu in Kedah, as well as Besut and Dungun in Terengganu.

“Also affected is Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai) Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera, Pekan and Rompin) and Sabah’s Pedalaman (Sipitang, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat and Kudat,” it said.

The strong weather is expected to persist until 7pm.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
