Hulu Selangor’s position strategic with potential for development

BENTONG, Aug 24 — The development plan for the Genting Highlands and Hulu Selangor area will result in much development without having to disrupt the environment.

Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) president Mohd Hasri Nor Mohd said the area can potentially develop due to its strategic location and proximity to international tourism centres.

“Genting Highland covers an area over 5,000 hectares with 16 per cent, or 808 hectares, in the Hulu Selangor area. However, there is much development in Bentong.

“From 2020 onwards, MPHS only accepted internal use amendment applications and vegetable garden proposals. With this draft plan, we can develop the area without impacting the environment,” he said.

Mohd Hasri was speaking during the officiation of the publicity and public participation programme for the Genting Highlands-Hulu Selangor Special Area Plan Draft, at the Geo Resort and Hotel here in Pahang yesterday.

The draft, prepared by MPHS and Selangor PLANMalaysia, aims to increase the development potential of land around Genting Highlands which falls under the Hulu Selangor district.

The document will serve as a guideline for the implementation of sustainable development, in order to prevent negative environmental impact.
