SHAH ALAM, Aug 31 — Selangor has recorded RM3.4 billion in its state reserves as of August this year, which is the highest since 2008, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said that despite the state administration’s various welfare and economic programmes for its people over the previous 14 years, Selangor has continued to build up its state reserves.

“Many had thought that Selangor would go bankrupt and the state would not progress if we continued to spend like this (on the people).

“But I would like to state that as of August 2022, the Selangor state reserves are recorded at RM3.4 billion, which is the highest record since 2008,” said Amirudin during the Ambang Merdeka event, which was also broadcast live on SelangorTV.

The event in conjunction with the 65th National Day was held at Dataran Kemerdekaan, here last night.

Amirudin noted that the state government had spent more than RM15 billion on its people at least since 2015.

“While we spend (for the people), ensure economic growth and safeguard the prosperity of the people, purchasing (Covid-19) vaccines to speed up the immunisation process and buying (Covid-19) test-kits for public screening, we were still able to save up for the future generation,” he said.

Amirudin said some of the initiatives introduced by the state government include the recently announced First Selangor Plan (RS-1), which consists of more than 202 projects valued at RM200 billion.

“There will be development in Sabak Bernam called Sabda (Sabak Bernam Development Area ), development in the south of Selangor called Idriss (Integrated Development Region in South Selangor, and development in central Selangor, which includes the areas around the (Shah Alam) stadium and along the Sungai Klang riverbank.

“The projects are to safeguard the prosperity and livelihood of the people, high economic development, and that Selangor remains the richest state and the biggest contributor to the progress of the country,” he said.

Amirudin said that the state government had also introduced the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang programme, which is a rebranding of the Insiatif Peduli Rakyat, that includes initiatives that offer support to those who are underprivileged and ensure no one is left behind.

He said that almost RM600 million has been allocated every year for the programme.
