Several Selangor areas to see squalls — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 — Four Selangor districts will experience strong weather until later tonight, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

In a statement issued at 6pm, the agency said the districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat.

“Other states and territories which will also see heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms include Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban and Jempol) and Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim)

“Similarly Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan dan Bera) and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Kluang, Mersing dan Kota Tinggi) will also see inclement weather,” it said.

In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s affected areas include Kuching, Samarahan, Betong, Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah (Matu, Dalat and Mukah), Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh) and Limbang (Lawas) while in Sabah it is Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), Pantai Barat (Papar) and Sandakan (Tongod, Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sandakan)

The weather is expected to persist until 8pm.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
