Exco shares important tips to maintain a healthy heart

SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud has advised people to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet in order to keep their hearts healthy.

In a post on Facebook, Dr Siti Mariah shared five tips to maintain a healthy heart in conjunction with World Heart Day, which is celebrated today.

Here are the tips:

1. Maintain a healthy body weight
– do home cooking, use fresh produces

2. Maintain cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar level within normal rate
– practise balanced diet, maintain a healthy lifestyle

3. Implement a healthy diet that is good for the heart
– choose food that is low on fat and cholesterol

4. Stay physically active
– choose an activity you like, increase frequency over time

5. Stress management
– too much stress will increase pressure on the heart, do yoga, and meditation to relieve the stress

The state government has introduced the Heart Treatment Scheme (Skim Peduli Jantung), which offers free financial aid worth up to RM50,000 for B40 and M40 groups.
