Batu Arang special area plan reflects state govt’s commitment towards environmental, national heritage protection

SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — The Batu Arang Special Area Plan (RKK) Draft 2030 reflects the state government’s commitment to protecting the environment and the national heritage in future development plans.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said that the RKK is part of a conservation management plan to protect an area of heritage interest, site development control and future planning without affecting the site’s heritage standards.

“The document can also be used as a reference for the community and the general public, especially those who reside living in the Batu Arang area, to manage and safeguard heritage and historical sites.

“The RKK’s objective is to realise the plans aimed at the national, state and local levels through the fourth National Physical Plan, the Selangor State Structure Plan 2035 and the local plan,” he said in a statement today.

Ng said that the public, local residents and non-governmental organisations are welcome to participate in providing feedback on the RKK.

“We hope that the public would not miss the opportunity so that the finalised RKK will meet the needs of the stakeholders,” the statement read.

Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari launched the publicity and public participation event of the Batu Arang Draft RKK 2030, which opens up the opportunity for the public to submit views, ideas and objections to the RKK until 21 November.

The RKK draft is prepared based on the requirements of the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Act 172) and the National Heritage Act 2005 (Act 645).

“In accordance with the provisions of Act 172, the RKK draft must go through the publicity and public participation process,” Ng added.
