KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2022 has gotten off to a great start with impressive numbers in terms of participants and attendance since the annual event was first held in 2015.

The state executive councillor for investment, industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim remarked that the event held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre since Thursday (October 6) is exciting and he was impressed by the attendees who have come from all over the world.

“So far, the event has been really exciting and we have broken several records, especially in the number of participants we featured, which is 623 companies and the highest number of booths opened so far in SIBS at 906.

“We believe that in the next few days, we will draw more traders and visitors to the event and hopefully more deals will be closed here,” he told Selangor Journal after the launch of MINNI, a new product by GT Spice Manufacturers Sdn Bhd, here yesterday.

The trade show is also slated to draw in a target of RM350 million worth of negotiated transaction value and aims to receive some 30,000 visitors throughout the four-day event, which ends tomorrow (October 9).

“This event is the best networking platform you can have so far in Malaysia and I don’t consider this as just a national event, but an international one,” Teng said.

He said that he hopes next year’s event will be even bigger and better as he believes it will draw in more traders and people from near and far.

“I strongly believe that SIBS will continue to grow looking at the figures that we’ve achieved in terms of the number of booths, space we occupy and the participating companies.

“All these figures are looking to be on an upward trend and I trust that in the next two years, SIBS will still be growing,” Teng said.

The eighth edition of SIBS was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah and featured a record-breaking 24 participating countries, which included participants from 10 out of 13 states in Malaysia.

SIBS 2022 showcases six main events, including the Selangor International Expo (SIE) Food and Beverages, SIE Medic, Selangor Industrial Park (Spark) Expo, the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC), the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC), and the Selangor Research and Development and Innovation Expo (SRIE).

Three other events that are also held concurrently include the Selangor International Culinary Festival (SICF), the Selangor International Healthcare Conference (SIHC) and the Asian Smart City Conference: Mayors Summit and Selangor Declaration.
