Selangor to see stormy weather until 4pm

SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 — Selangor is expected to be hit with thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 4pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 12.15pm, the agency said similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Penang.

A similar warning was also issued for several areas namely Kedah (Bandar Baharu), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Tumpat, Kota Bharu, Bachok and Pasir Puteh) and Terengganu (Besut, Setiu and Kuala Nerus). 

“Other areas include Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub and Bentong), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin), Sarawak (Sri Aman, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang) as well as Sabah (Sipitang, Tenom, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau, Kota Belud, Sandakan (Beluran) and Kudat (Kota Marudu),” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
