KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS 2022) has recorded RM1.12 billion in transaction value within two days of its eighth instalment.

State executive councillor for investment, industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said that the figure, which was mostly contributed by the manufacturing and logistics sectors, had tripled from the initial target of RM350 million.

“This is indeed a huge success for the state government and the organiser (Invest Selangor Bhd). I expected the number to keep increasing as the event will be opened to public visitors tomorrow.

“I anticipate that we could record another RM350 million of transactions tomorrow, making the total value stands in between RM1.4 billion and RM1.5 billion,” he told the press after launching the Selangor SME Digitalisation Conference, here today.

Teng said SIBS 2022 has received overwhelming responses from the crowd and the high transaction value recorded at the event has elevated the business summit status to a higher level.

“Through the event, we have achieved our target to make Selangor become a renowned international trade hub,” he added.

Meanwhile, Teng expressed his confidence that SIBS 2022 would be able to draw the targeted 30,000 visitors.

“As of yesterday, we have recorded over 20,000 visitors, mostly from the business-to-business segment. Therefore, I am confident that once the event is open to the public tomorrow, we could achieve a higher turnout,” he said.

With approximately 906 booths from 623 companies, this year’s summit aims to attract some 30,000 visitors during the four-day event.

SIBS 2022 was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah on Thursday at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, accompanied by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

SIBS 2022 showcases six main events, including the Selangor International Expo (SIE) Food and Beverages, SIE Medic, Selangor Industrial Park (Spark) Expo, the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC), the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC), and the Selangor Research and Development and Innovation Expo (SRIE).
