GOMBAK, Nov 4 — The Pakatan Harapan (PH) victory in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15) is important to restore the dignity of Gombak voters, says PH candidate for the parliamentary seat Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor PH chairman said Gombak was among the waves of reformation from 1998 until the state government was formed under the coalition in 2008, followed by the formation of the federal government in 2018 after years of struggle.

“Unfortunately, after 22 months and an incomplete reformation process, there are people who began to find opportunities to climb the ladder.

“Ten years of shouting for reform, going back and forth across the country… but because of the whispers from the devil, because of the fear for some people, betrayal and misfortune came. Unfortunately, it involved the people we chose in Gombak.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise God), Gombak is not disbanded and it is still a stronghold of PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat). PH grew stronger after the unfortunate episode that hit the country,” said Amirudin at the Himpunan Gombak Bermaruah event and the launch of the Gombak parliament machinery, here last night.

Amirudin, who is also PKR vice-president, reminded everyone of the hard work and sacrifices of the people for PH to win.

“People took out their pocket money to donate to PH. Some gave RM2, some gave RM100, and some even gave RM100,000. Why? Because the people of Gombak, the people of Selangor, and Malaysians, all hoped for change for the good of the country.

“Many of them are Gombak people. Some have passed on, some have lost their jobs, all still harbouring hope that Malaysia will become a fairer country and speaks for racial diversity,” he said.

The Selangor Menteri Besar expressed his determination to restore the dignity of Gombak voters by returning the parliamentary seat to PH.

“It is my responsibility to defend Gombak and restore the dignity that was tarnished because we sent a member of parliament who became one of the causes of political and economic instability in our country.

“Let’s make Gombak dignified again. We have dignity and self-respect. Make sure this GE15, Gombak is dignified and defended with the votes for PH,” said Amirudin, followed by cheers from the crowd.

Meanwhile, Gombak PH Youth leader Husaini Yunos said that the PH election machinery vows to return the parliamentary seat to the opposition coalition.

Husaini led the oath of allegiance in front of Amirudin during the launch of the PH election machinery in Gombak for the upcoming general polls.

The pledge of more than 40 young men from PH ended with the chant of “Lawan tetap lawan, lawan sampai menang,” (Keep up the fight, fight until we win), shaking Dewan Sri Siantan, here last night.

“We also pledge with all our efforts to fight against enemies and traitors in the land of Gombak.

“We also promise to contribute all our energy to restore the dignity of Gombak, which has been defiled and betrayed,” they pledged.

During the event, Amirudin unveiled a Proton X70 as the official vehicle to be used throughout the campaign period in Gombak.

Amirudin will be contesting the Gombak parliamentary seat against Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (Barisan Nasional) and Aziz Jamaludin Tahir (Gerakan Tanah Air).

The Gombak seat was held by Azmin for three terms, but switched parties and caused the collapse of the 22-month PH government in February 2020.

The Electoral Commission has set this Saturday (November 5) as the nomination day, early voting on November 15 and polling day on November 19.
