Selangor uses special blocks to strengthen structure of soft soil to avoid bunds from bursting — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — The state government uses special blocks to strengthen the structure of soft soil to prevent bunds from bursting, said state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim.

He said the new method is capable of dealing with floods and has even been used in several places between Sungai Lui and Sungai Buah in Hulu Langat.

“This method is also used on the bunds in Tanjong Karang. These special boxes are arranged like bricks to strengthen the bunds, and the floating materials will prevent water from breaking the bunds.

“Consequently, it will slowly expand along the soft land areas in stages. This is to prevent instances of burst bunds,” Izham said at a press conference in the Annex Hall lobby, here today.

He added an inspection of the effectiveness of using sacks (geobags), to prevent the overflow of seawater onto land, has also been carried out.

Yesterday, two seawalls in Tanjong Karang broke due to a high tide phenomenon, causing flooding around the area.

Following that, a total of 111 victims were moved to temporary relief centres after their homes became inundated.
