Stormy weather to hit Selangor, KL and Putrajaya until 6pm

SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected to hit all areas in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 6pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 2.45pm, the agency said similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Perlis, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

“Meanwhile, strong weather is also expected in Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Jerantut, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin) and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru).

“As for east Malaysia, the inclement weather is expected to hit Sarawak in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang as well as in Sabah (Tawau, Sandakan and Kudat),” the agency said on Facebook.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
