MB agrees to revision of RM7 bln allocation, hopes flood prevention projects for Selangor continues

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amuridin Shari understands that there is justification for the prime minister to order the RM7 billion flood mitigation project to be reviewed after it was approved through direct negotiations by the previous government.

“That is the process (of reviewing the approval). The prime minister wants to review (if the project was made through) a direct tender process or a direct appointment process,” he said.

However, Amirudin hopes that the flood mitigation allocation for Selangor totalling RM4.7 billion as announced by the previous government can be continued.

“The process may be revised but Selangor’s needs do exist and are very important. We really need the project to reduce the risk of flooding, especially during the monsoon season,” he said when met by reporters after visiting the 2022 Selangor International Book Fair (SIBF) at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre, here today.

Yesterday, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ordered a flood mitigation project amounting to RM7 billion and approved by the previous government to be stopped pending a review.

Although the prime minister did not mention the location of the project, Amirudin was reported yesterday as saying that the state government will receive information from the Ministry of Finance on the matter.
