South Selangor development will not touch forest reserves areas — Exco

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 — The Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss) does not involve forest reserves or existing urban areas, said state executive councillor for investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.

He said most development proposals in the Sepang and Kuala Langat districts involve palm oil plantations and areas that have not been developed by landowners.

“Idriss is carried out by private parties with large areas of development land in Sepang and Kuala Langat.

“One of the objectives of Idriss is to bring balance in development to other districts in Selangor. We do not want economic activities to only be concentrated in the Klang Valley,” Teng said during the wind-up of the 2023 Selangor Budget, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.

He added Idriss is expected to take between five and 10, years depending on the development plans.

It includes development projects like industrial sectors, logistics and warehouse services, ports, businesses, housing, tourism and education.

“There are two projects in the process of submitting its planning permission applications to local authorities, namely the NCT Smart Industrial Park project in Kuala Langat, and the Sepang Gold Coast Global Village in Bagan Lalang, Sepang.

“There are also several other property owners who are interested in listing their proposed development projects under Idriss, and the state government is ready to consider them,” said the councillor.

Idriss is one of the agendas contained in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) announced in July, to develop Sepang and Kuala Langat with an allocation of RM1 trillion.

Here is a list of proposed projects under Idriss according to region:

  1. Selangor Business Capital (Sepang) — 143.24 acres
  2. Sepang Gold Coast Global Village (Sepang) — 988 acres
  3. Unisel Global Campus (Sepang)
