Half of Selangor to see inclement weather until 7pm — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected to hit five Selangor districts until 7pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 3.45pm on Facebook, the agency said the districts affected include Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

“Other states to anticipate stormy weather are Penang and Putrajaya. Similar weather conditions are also forecasted in Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar and Batang Padang) and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan and Pekan).

“Inclement weather is also expected in Kelantan (Gua Musang), Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman) and Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau),” it said.

Meanwhile, the agency added that in East Malaysia, thunderstorms are anticipated to hit Sarawak: Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman, Betong (Betong), Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu, Kapit (Song) and Bintulu (Tatau).

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
