Hawana 2023 expected to attract over 1,000 media practioners

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 — The 2023 National Journalists Day (Hawana 2023) celebration is set to be held in Ipoh, Perak from May 27 to May 29, targeting the participation of over 1,000 media practitioners from all over the country.

Communications and Digital Ministry deputy secretary-general (strategic communications and creative industry) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa said media practitioners from several Asean countries were also expected to join the event this time around.

“This year, we will ensure a livelier event as early preparations have been made, and it will be different from last year, where only a summit event was held.

“It will be a three-day event this year. We will have a carnival on the first two days and will ensure that as many media practitioners as possible are involved. We will also use this as a platform to forge a better relationship among media practitioners and the locals,” she said when met by Bernama here today.

Earlier, Mastura and members of the Malaysia National News Agency (Bernama) management paid a courtesy call on Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad to discuss the upcoming event.

Also present were Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief (covering Editor-in-Chief) Jamaluddin Muhammad, Broadcasting TV and Radio chief D. Arul Rajoo and Bernama Radio chief Azlan Idris.

Mastura said Hawana 2023 was an opportunity for media practitioners to get together as well as discuss and exchange ideas with the local community.

“We hope the event turns out to be a success and that all media practitioners can attend as it is the day when the government expresses its appreciation to media practitioners,” she said.

Meanwhile, Saarani said he welcomed the organising of Hawana 2023 in Perak, adding that it was an opportunity to promote the state.

“It is also Visit Ipoh Year this year, and next year, it will be Visit Perak Year. This is an opportunity (for us) with the presence of a large number of local and Asean media practitioners,” he added.
