GOMBAK, April 22 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari paid a visit to national football legend and former Selangor player Khalid Ali, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, at his residence in AU4 Keramat yesterday night.
Arriving at around 9.45pm, he spent over half an hour chatting with the former national squad striker and his wife Siti Nurkhanah Mohamad Yatin.
Amirudin offered words of encouragement as well as prayers for Khalid’s speedy recovery.
Accompanied by his regional political secretary A Rahim Kasdi, the Menteri Besar also presented Hari Raya Aidilfitri tidbits and personal donations to Khalid.
Earlier on, the Gombak MP spent time ushering in Aidilfitri by reciting takbir raya with some 100 congregants at Surau At-Tarbiah in Fasa 4, Taman Melawati.
At the start of Ramadan last month, Khalid was diagnosed with stage 3A lung cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the Selayang Hospital.
The local football observer and critic formerly played on the Selangor football team from 1976 to 1985.
A midfielder, Khalid also represented the Malaysian football team from 1977 to 1985, and was one of the main contributors for the nation qualifying for the Olympic Games in Moscow, Russia, in 1980.
