SHAH ALAM, June 15 — The Ampang Lookout Point (Alop), which was closed over 10 years ago, will be redeveloped with several new attractions, and is expected to be opened to the public from July 1 next year.

State executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said the lookout point, which was previously a popular choice for enjoying the view of Kuala Lumpur, will be developed as an internationally recognized eco-tourism destination.

“The development will be carried out by the private company Pearl Holiday Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd (Pearl Holiday), with an investment value of RM30 million over a 30-year lease period,” he said.

In line with the concept of environmental sustainability, only 20 per cent of the area will be developed, said Hee.

“Various facilities will be provided, including comfortable motor homes (caravans), glamping (short for glamorous camping), food stalls, and a beautiful natural environment,” he said in a press conference earlier today.

He made these remarks after handing over the development rights of Alop as a state forest excellence center to Pearl Holiday.

Hee added that the lookout point will be one of many tourist attractions in the state.

“The developer will prioritize safety aspects at the tourist center following previous landslide incidents.

“Alop was closed due to landslides and slope instability. Therefore, we urge the developer to address these issues for the safety of visitors,” he said.
