Anwar urges Selangor voters to prevent PN from capturing state

SHAH ALAM, June 12 — Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has cautioned Selangor voters not to allow the state administration to fall into the hands of their political opponents Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming state election.

During his special address to Selangor state civil servants earlier today, he emphasised the importance of preventing PN from benefiting from the various social and economic policies implemented by Harapan since 2008.

“Selangor is the stronghold of Harapan. It is the core of the coalition, and we must protect it at all costs. There are individuals seeking ways to take the state away from us. We must not permit it,” Anwar said during the gathering at Dewan Jubli Perak at the State Secretariat Building, here.

Harapan has helmed the state for the last three terms, encompassing 15 years under the leadership of the late Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, followed by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, and currently under Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

In his capacity as Prime Minister, Anwar also reminded the state’s civil servants to carry out their duties with integrity and to avoid falling into the culture of complacency.

Amirudin, who also spoke at the event, expressed his opposition to the culture of excessive flattery and insincere praises, including the practice of embellishing official reports to create a more positive impression.

The special address today is ahead of the automatic dissolution of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on June 25.

Previously, Amirudin, who is the Selangor Harapan chairman, said seat deliberations among coalition allies in the Unity Government have been settled in 53 out of 56 constituencies.

He also noted the seat allocation discussions were much smoother compared to the period leading up the 15th General Election in November last year.
