Campsite operators laud guidelines for camping activities — Exco

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, June 16 — The state government’s efforts to formulate guidelines for campsites are well-received by the operators.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said since February, many operators have registered with local authorities to ensure campsite activities run smoothly.

“We are providing guidelines for camping activities to ensure public safety. The operators have shown their support for this effort and many have registered themselves.

“Those who have yet to sign up are urged to do so immediately. This would ease the operations for everyone, including the customers,” he said at the handing over ceremony of the Ampang Look Out Point (Alop) development rights as a state forest excellence centre to Pearl Holiday Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd, here yesterday.

Beginning February 1, all campsite operators in Selangor are required to register with the respective local councils for safety measures.

This decision came following the Batang Kali landslide tragedy at the Father’s Organic Farm on December 16 of last year, which claimed 31 lives while 61 others were rescued.
