Don’t be afraid to carry out your rightful duties, MB Amirudin tells state staff

SHAH ALAM, June 23 – Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has encouraged state civil servants to remain steadfast in their official duties, amidst criticism from Perikatan Nasional (PN) that the state was purportedly closing down private religious schools.

In his final address to the state civil servants today in conjunction with the dissolution of the state assembly, Amirudin lambasted critics from PN, telling them to check their facts, pointing out that state authorities were registering private religious schools to ensure they adhere to safety and security standards.

“I am appalled at the recent attempts by these people, who claimed they had all the answers and solutions, yet often attack this administration by simply playing with sentiments instead of producing actual policies or solutions.

“Even in Islamic Fiqh (philosophy of Islamic Law), there is emphasis on responsibility. If the schools were not up to the required standards – no fire escape or proper exit, for example – who then should be responsible if something were to happen?

“The state is carrying out its duties to ensure the well-being of all its citizens. So, civil servants, do not be afraid to carry out your responsibilities by the law. Be patient and remain steadfast in your resolve,” said Amirudin.

Previously, Islamic Religious Affairs, Consumer Affairs, and Halal Industry Committee chairman Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni also strongly refuted allegations aimed at discrediting the state’s registration of private religious schools.

Mohd Zawawi clarified that the effort, which commenced in 2019 and involved 416 private religious schools, has been implemented to elevate the quality and status of these educational institutions.

He said the state government was also disappointed with the malicious accusation that Minister of Local Government Development Nga Kor Ming was the alleged mastermind behind attempts to shut down private religious schools in Selangor.

Meanwhile, Amirudin in his address also welcomes the challenge of any political opponents that supposedly wish to take over the state administration.

“It is a democratic country, so please do your best to prove yourself, but I implore you not to attack state civil servants with such tactics,” he said, adding that with the state election looming, state civil servants must practise patience against such attacks by critics.

The Selangor State Legislative Assembly is officially dissolved today, with the state administration led by Amirudin effectively becoming a caretaker government.
