SHAH ALAM, June 18 — The success of the Selangor Mega Career Carnival 2023 is proof that Selangor continues to be a major economic powerhouse in the country, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the job fair benefits not only the residents of Selangor but also those from other states as well.

“During this career fair, the attendees are not only the local residents in Selangor but also those who have relocated here, recognising it as an economic powerhouse.

“By hosting this career fair, we are providing job opportunities to graduates and improving the potential for new employment,” he said in his address at the closing ceremony of the career fair at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre (MBSA), here today.

Amirudin further explained that the decline in the state’s unemployment rate is a significant accomplishment, indicating that Selangor is a productive state in terms of economic institutions.

“We would like to make Selangor whole, starting with an education (system) that could offer job opportunities and institutional growth in technical and vocational fields.

“Therefore, the state government is taking proactive steps to establish the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC), which not only offers an income of RM2,000 to RM3,000 but also provides high-income opportunities,” he said.

The Selangor Mega Career Carnival 2023 involved more than 100 companies from various sectors, including F&B (food and beverage), services, automotive, education, hospitality, and tourism.

First held in June last year, the carnival helped 1,996 individuals secure jobs.

This effort contributed to a decrease in the unemployment rate to 2.6 per cent in the first quarter of this year compared to 2.9 per cent in 2022.
