SHAH ALAM, June 16 — Incentives worth over RM3.55 million have been distributed to some 2,000 farmers, fishermen, breeders and downstream agriculture players by the Selangor government so far this year.

State agriculture modernisation and agro-based industries committee chairman Izham Hashim said the allocation was given out through the state’s Aid and Special Projects Committee 2023.

“This year, the state government has agreed to increase the total incentives, compared to only about RM2 million last year.

“We hope these incentives can assist the players carry out their job and at the same time help prevent cost increase,” he said after attending the agricultural sector incentive handover ceremony at Laman Niaga Kohijrah, here, yesterday.

Among the recipients were the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (RM675,000) and state Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (RM100,000).

Others to benefit were Selangor Farmers Organisation Authority (RM350,000), composite gas cylinder aid worth RM200,000 to 1,333 beneficiaries, and floating jetties in three locations worth RM3,000.

Last November, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government was allocating RM7.9 million for 2023 for the implementation of the Selangor Food Security initiative.

He said the allocation is meant to increase the income of agricultural entrepreneurs and improve sustainable agricultural practices.
