SHAH ALAM, July 27 — The eight-month-old Unity Government is on the right track and has been consistent in helping the people, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, the government has gone back to basics to empower the people’s wellbeing.
“I think the Prime Minister has immediately implemented tremendous aid and support for the people.
“… allocations for rubber tappers were increased during monsoon season, and this year, padi farmers in Selangor received RM1,000 in aid.
“We took seven to eight months to put the country on a better track,” he said at the pre-launch ceremony of Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor (Yanis) yesterday.
Yesterday, Anwar launched the Madani Economy: Empowering the People plan to lift the country’s economy for the people to enjoy quality lives.
He announced an e-Tunai initiative of RM100 for adults earning below RM100,000 a year and RM300 handouts for civil servants of Grade 56 and under.
The PM also said RM200 in aid was given to one million government retirees, including pension and issued pension recipients and former Employees Provident Fund workers.
Anwar said the same benefit will be extended to early retirees, those who have not received their pensions, and pensioned and non-pensioned veterans.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) is confident the candidates it is fielding in the August 12 state election will serve the people no matter the circumstance.
Amirudin, who is also Selangor Harapan chairman, said the consensus between Keadilan, DAP and Amanah is that selected candidates can defend the incumbent government.
“We have moved candidates around, but with reason. It looks like this is their (Perikatan Nasional’s) strategy as well.
“Nevertheless, we are fielding candidates who are willing to serve and help the people at all times,” said Amirudin.
On July 22, Keadilan announced the names of 20 of its candidates for the polls, including a Bukit Melawati incumbent who will contest in Hulu Kelang.
Amanah and DAP also released their candidate lists, with each party contesting nine and 15 seats, respectively, while Barisan Nasional eyes 12.
Nomination day for Selangor and five other states is tomorrow, while polling day is on August 12.
