PETALING JAYA, July 19 — Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is set to erect 36 stalls equipped with various facilities at the Damai Setia People’s Park, Damansara Damai in a bid to address the issue of illegal hawkers in the surrounding area.

Specifically, its mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said unlicensed businesses along Jalan PJU 10/1 have caused major problems, particularly on the issues of hygiene and road obstruction.

“This new stall site will give a fresh image and identity to the city, and will ensure recreational activities will be more comfortable and conducive.

“I hope it will become a public attraction and contribute to the local economy,” he said in a statement.

According to Azhan, the project, which will be built on a 1,433-acre land, is inspired by the ‘pitstop caravan’ concept and will include environmentally-friendly elements.

He added that the stalls will comprise 30 plots measuring 6×6 meters and six plots measuring 3×3 meter each. There will be a further eight plots specifically for the sale of fruits.

In addition, the venue will also have, among others, 36 parking bays, surau, public toilet and a security post, as well as an integrated playground and open space.
