No eviction notice for Taman Sungai Sireh residents, ECRL alignment not final

AMPANG JAYA, July 24 — No notice of eviction has been issued to residents of Taman Sungai Sireh, Klang to make way for the construction of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

This is after Gombak PAS Youth information chief Mohamad Suffi Kamari alleged that residents there would be evicted soon as a result of the ECRL alignment.

Amirudin clarified that discussions are still ongoing between the state government and the project developer pertaining to the neighbourhood, and that the alignment has yet to be finalised.

Construction at the location is only scheduled to begin in 2025, he added.

“What this means is demolition will not be done in the near future. What’s happening is we are evaluating what to propose (to the developers). The state government needs to know what the actual alignment is.

“For the moment, no notice has been issued. He (Suffi) appears to have obtained early information, perhaps he got it from the genie,” he said.

Amirudin told reporters this after handing over land ownership offer letters (Form 5A) to 46 residents of Taman Keramat for a 99-year lease extension at Dewan MPAJ (Ampang Jaya Municipal Council) Taman Keramat, here, today.

Recently, Suffi uploaded a video clip on his social media platform demanding Amirudin to meet Taman Sungai Sireh residents whom he claimed would be evicted to clear the way for the ECRL construction.

On February 18, Amirudin gave the assurance that the state would defend residents in Port Klang affected by the project, including by providing them new homes.

Meanwhile, earlier in his speech, Amirudin said the state has approved over 80,000 Form 5As since 2008 and that the move has effectively addressed the issue of squatting in the state.

“From 2008 until July last year, I estimate over 80,000 land ownership issues were settled, involving settlements that had been illegal, had not fulfilled requirements or had had temporary ownership.

“We were able to resolve this, and because of that, we are no longer facing the long-standing issue of squatting,” he said.

Amirudin said those receiving their Form 5As only need to pay RM1,000, and that the fee would remain the same as long as the land plots stipulated are not mortgaged or sold.
