SHAH ALAM, July 12 — The state government has spent close to RM23 million in subsidies, for Selangor residents to purchase daily necessities at prices lower than the market rate, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said in 2018, the Selangor Agro Market (SAM) was formed to assist farmers in selling their excess crops, which also meant the wider public could purchase wet items at more affordable costs.
“Early last year, the state government introduced the Intervensi Ehsan programme. Chicken, fish, vegetables, and various basic kitchen items were also sold at prices lower than the market rate,” Amirudin said on Twitter.
This initiative was subsequently expanded into the affordable basic necessities sale roadshow Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat, with its locations and frequency increasing statewide.
“During the various festive periods, the locations and frequency were doubled by mega roadshows.
“This year, the state government is cooperating with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. The Jelajah Ehsan Rahmah roadshow will take place so as to cover many more locations in Selangor,” he said.
Amirudin added these efforts are indicative of a responsible government, with the vision to help the people.
“It is proof that this administration constantly prioritises the welfare and prosperity of Selangor’s residents,” he said.
