SHAH ALAM, 13th July – The Selangor chapter of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) will give priority to young and winnable candidates in the upcoming state election, according to party vice-president Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin, however, said Keadilan is also open to retaining current incumbents in their respective seats based on their performances in the past term.
“The most critical factor is the candidate’s ability to win. If a new candidate has the potential to secure victory, we will field them. The party has consistently championed young candidates, as I, myself, contested at the age of 28.”
“Likewise, if an incumbent candidate is capable of winning, we will retain them. Ultimately, the candidate’s ability to secure victory will be the primary consideration for their selection,” he told a press conference after the launch of Bizmatch Mega 2.0 hosted by Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) today.
Meanwhile, Amirudin, who also serves as state Pakatan Harapan chairman, refuted a purported leaked list of candidates from Keadilan that has been circulating on social media since yesterday.
“I do not understand how the people responsible for spreading that list claim to know more, as the candidates have yet to be selected by the (party’s) committee.
Amirudin noted that the party would only meet to review the candidates’ list starting July 16.
The Election Commission has set August 12 as the polling day for six states, namely Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pulau Pinang, and Negeri Sembilan.
Nomination day is scheduled for July 29, while early voting will take place on August 8, with a two-week campaign period.
