Anwar to launch NETR today

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to launch the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) today, which will reinforce Malaysia’s commitment to achieve its net-zero goals as early as 2050.

A NETR booklet by the Economy Ministry showed the first phase launched last month outlined 10 flagship projects based on six energy transition levers. The second phase will establish low-carbon pathways, the national energy mix, emissions reduction targets, and enablers needed for the energy transition.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli during the launch of the first phase on July 27 said NETR will open investment opportunities of between RM435 billion and RM1.85 trillion by 2050, with the first phase alone estimated to create 23,000 high-impact jobs.

Rafizi said the roadmap will help transform the economy by catalysing profitable ventures good for the environment and markets.

The NETR is critical for the country to navigate the complexity of a large-scale energy transition, especially in the shift from a fossil fuel-based economy to a high-value green economy.
