Five ex-athletes among candidates for key posts in MS

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — Five former national athletes who have competed in the Olympic Games are among the six individuals who have the opportunity to fill the positions of technical director and diving high-performance manager to put the sport back on the best track.

Malaysian Swimming Federation (MS) secretary-general Andy Low said of the six individuals, four of them applied for the position of technical director while two for the position of high-performance manager.

The four candidates for the position of technical director are former athletes Datuk Leong Mun Yee, Bryan Nickson Lomas, Mohd Azheem Bahari, and Khairul Safwan Mansur.

While the two candidates to fill the position of high-performance manager are another former athlete Rossharisham Roslan and sports coordinator Kelvin Chong.

Andy said that MS is focusing on local talent to fill the two critical positions.

“We have conducted interviews today, and five of them are former national Olympians. We will make a selection, and the results will be known at the end of this month. Interestingly, all the candidates are local.

“One of the main reasons we choose local people is because it is easier, especially in terms of language, culture and also more understanding,” he said when met at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil earlier today.
