GOMBAK, Aug 19 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari spent time today visiting the Girl Guides in the Gombak district, where they were carrying out a community programme at Dewan MPKK and the women’s hall in Kampung Sungai Tua Baharu.

The half-hour visit saw him interact with 34 members of the team, as he observed them plant 30 rose bushes using recycled bottles.

Hailing from eight primary schools in Gombak, the Girl Guides also included 13 leaders and some local residents during the activity. They also listened to a brief speech by Amirudin.

Earlier today, the team cleaned Dewan MPKK and the women’s hall, putting up Jalur Gemilang flags in preparation for the Independence Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, Gombak district Girl Guides’ community relations commissioner Haniza Hanapi said the team were pleasantly surprised at the Menteri Besar’s presence today.

“We did not expect him to attend our programme and are very grateful for the encouraging words he shared with us. He is a friendly and sportsmanlike person,” she said, adding that today’s programme ran from 8am to 12pm.
