PETALING JAYA, Aug 29 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will once again host the third edition of the Petaling Jaya Book Expo (PJBX) from September 9 to September 17.

Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said the expo, organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Book Publishers Association (Mabopa), will take place at Dewan Sivik MBPJ, from 9am to 6pm.

“Over 30 popular book publishers will participate in PJBX, including Karangkraf, Institut Buku Darul Ehsan, PTS, Pelangi, and Iman Publications.

“Book purchase vouchers will also be given to early visitors so they can buy reading materials which catch their interest at lower prices,” he said during the press conference on the expo at the council’s headquarters earlier today.

Mohamad Azhan added that various exciting activities will occur throughout PJBX’s duration, including book discussions, storytelling competitions, and singing competitions.

Special activities will be provided for disabled persons, and free Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) seminars for examination candidates.

“For this year’s expo, we will also have a special appearance by the Didi & Friends mascot, for visitors who attend PJBX on September 9 and September 10,” he said.

MBPJ’s strategic partners, including public and private educational institutions, will also contribute to various visitor activities, like dental check-ups by Lincoln University, early childhood education awareness by Saito University College, and road safety awareness by UiTM.

On January 31, 2019, Petaling Jaya was recognised as one of the world’s top 10 Learning Cities in 2019.

This award was presented by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, in recognition of the city’s outstanding achievements and initiatives in the field of education, particularly those undertaken by MBPJ.
