DA NANG, Sept 21 — The 7th Meeting of the Asean Plus Three Senior Officials Responsible for Information (7th Somri+3) on Thursday commenced on the second day of the 16th Conference of Asean Ministers Responsible for Information (Amri) and Related Meetings.
The session began with opening remarks by co-chair Vietnam (Somri Chair) and South Korea (Plus Three Chair), who welcomed the delegates to the meeting and hoped for fruitful and deeper cooperation through Asean Plus Three.
The meeting, among others, discussed relevant discussions on the 25th Asean Plus Three Summit which was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, last year as well as the 26th Asean Plus Three Summit which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 6 this year.
The Malaysian delegation was led by Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.
Also in the delegation are the Department of Information (Japen) Director of Media and Corporate Communication Datuk E. Sivabalan, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Deputy Editor-in-Chief (News Service) Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, as well as other high-ranking officials from KKD and its agencies.
The session was followed by the 4th Meeting of the Asean Plus Japan Senior Officials Responsible for Information (4th Somri+J), co-chaired by Vietnam as Somri Chair and Japan.
Japan at the meeting said that Asean has always been a priority for the country and wishes to further strengthen cooperation between both sides including in broadcasting contents and systems, especially as this year marks the 50th Year of Asean-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
Meanwhile, Thailand as the country coordinator for Japan updated the meeting on the status of past and ongoing cooperations as well as proposed future cooperations between the two sides in the field of information and media.
Related documents from the Somri-level meeting will be presented at the Amri.
The two-day Somri ended today. Amri will begin tomorrow with the attendance of Asean ministers responsible for information.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil will lead the Malaysian delegation to Amri.
