DA NANG, Sept 19 — Vietnam will be hosting the 16th Conference of Aeean Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) and Related Meetings from Sept 20 to 23.
Themed ‘Media: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Responsive ASEAN’, the meeting will be held at Furama Resort Danang, here.
Vietnam Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said the 16th AMRI, among others, will discuss topics such as tackling disinformation and digital transformation.
“We are happy to host the 16th AMRI. With all the Asean country members, we aim not just to tackle disinformation but to also discuss the media digital transformation.
“We do believe that media agencies and government bodies should share this very important goal to transform information to knowledge, to be able to help our people be more resilient,” he said here today.
The opening ceremony of the 16th AMRI is scheduled for Friday (Sept 22) with opening remarks by one of Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Ministers.
AMRI will be preceded by the 20th Asean Senior Officials Meeting Responsible for Information (SOMRI), at the the same venue.
On the sideline of the event, Vietnam is also hosting the Asean Forum on Disinformation today and the Asean Workshop on Best Practices on Digital Transformation in Mass Media on Sept 21.
Besides ministers and senior officials responsible for information from Asean member states, the meetings will also include Asean Plus Three — China, Japan and South Korea, as well as Timor Leste.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil will lead the Malaysia delegation at AMRI while Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa will lead for SOMRI.
Also in the delegation are the Department of Information (Japen) Director of Media and Corporate Communication Datuk E. Sivabalan, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Deputy Editor-in-Chief (News Service) Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin as well as other high-ranking officials from the ministry and its agencies.
