SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is confident higher-income job opportunities will be made available by implementing the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review (12MP MTR).

Specifically, the Gombak MP said this will be possible by implementing sustainable economic activities and initiatives, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during its tabling earlier today.

Among the sectors and industries that will benefit, according to Amirudin, include renewable energy, digital technology, as well as electric and electronic.

Several aspects under the recently launched New Industrial Master Plan 2030, including efforts to turn Malaysia into a global Islamic financial hub, are also set to open up new opportunities for the public.

“These (activities) can generate jobs with higher salaries for the people of Selangor and Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, when tabling 12MP MTR, Anwar said the government is increasing the spending ceiling for the 12MP by RM15 billion to RM415 billion, to finance initiatives aimed at assisting the public.

The initial focus will be given to efforts to end poverty, to address infrastructural issues and the basic needs of the public, including the upgrading of dilapidated clinics and schools, ensuring clean water supply, and empowering the Islamic economy.

The mid-term review, themed Sustainable, Prosperous and High Income, comprises 12 affirmations under three main focuses, namely towards a high-income nation, building a prosperous society, and strengthening sustainability and governance.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state is prepared to cooperate with the Federal government in its effort to empower the public transportation sector.

This includes expanding the Bus Rapid Transit network system, redeveloping the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SAAS) in Subang, and constructing a new port in Pulau Carey, Klang.

“I am also open to the proposal to expedite flood mitigation projects and set up a National Geology Disaster Centre to ensure Selangor and other states can adapt faster to challenges posed by climate change,” he said.

Amirudin also commended the Federal government’s progressive wage policy and its focus on Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and on digital education.

He said doing so will bring about positive changes to future generations so they are taught new skills and offered more dignified wages.

“I will elaborate more on this during my debate in Parliament tomorrow evening, InsyaAllah,” Amirudin concluded.
