By Zareef Muzammil

KAJANG, Sept 21 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI will provide financial aid to ease the burden of families affected by the recent storm in Beranang on Tuesday (September 19).

Its corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the Selangor State Executive Council meeting will determine the amount of cash assistance.

“Whenever a disaster occurs, MBI provides financial assistance. I held preliminary discussions with the disaster management unit on how MBI can contribute to humanitarian aid.

“We will also work together with the state government to help the affected families,” he said.

Ahmad Azri was speaking to the press after his visit to inspect the conditions of the affected victims, at the temporary relief centre in Surau Tengah Kampung Sesapan Batu Rembau yesterday.

MBI has already distributed immediate assistance to the victims at the PPS, including 100 mattresses, 200 bath towels, 20 cartons of mineral water, 150 packs of instant noodles, 300 loaves of bread, and 150 packs of biscuits, with a RM5,000 allocation.

He added the contribution also includes 200 packs of retort food packs and 100 units of personal protective equipment, as well as the intention to donate school supplies to the children.

Ahmad Azri also promised a RM20,000 allocation to the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) of Kampung Sesapan Batu Rembau and the MPKK of Kampung Sesapan Batu Minangkabau, to carry out preliminary repairs on the roofs of several residents’ homes.

The storm that hit Beranang at 7pm on Tuesday resulted in damages to 96 residential units, involving 370 victims.

They include residents from Kampung Paya Tanjung, Kampung Sesapan Batu Minangkabau, Kampung Sungai Jai, Taman PKNS Beranang, and Kampung Sesapan Batu Rembau.

Consequently, a temporary relief centre was activated, accommodating 43 victims from 10 families, with the remaining affected families staying with relatives.
