Selangor mulls cooperation with SPNB to build housing projects

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — The state government hopes to collaborate with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) to develop housing projects for its residents.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this could accommodate the increasing demand for housing due to the migration of people from other states to Selangor.

“Previously, the state government relied on the private sector for construction. We hope SPNB can assist and participate in providing housing within the defined scope.

“However recently, we have changed our policy by returning (housing projects) to unmarried individuals. There is indeed a need in Selangor due to the significant population migration,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking during the dialogue session with Deputy Finance Minister II Steven Sim Chee Keong as part of the Budget 2024 Roadshow in Selangor at the State Secretariat Building yesterday.

The Menteri Besar added that since the last term, Selangor has managed to implement many housing projects, despite facing the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago.

“We simply want to encourage SPNB to come up with certain funding to help us align housing construction projects, as the foundation is already there,” he said.

By 2025, the state government aims to construct 60,000 residential units via the Rumah SelangorKu 3.0 housing policy, which comes after it managed to accomplish its initial target of 30,000 affordable housing units by this year.
