SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — A month after being appointed as state executive councillor for local government and tourism, Ng Suee Lim said Selangor will focus on medical tourism to draw more foreign visitors to the state.
He said the plan is one of many promotional strategies outlined by Tourism Selangor.
The five-term Sekinchan state assemblyman explained the strategies for the upcoming year are in line with preparations for the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign.
The campaign aims to attract up to eight million domestic and international tourists to visit Selangor during that year.
“(The plan is in place) due to the top-notch medical facilities were offer, and we plan to strengthen it.
“We will promote our tourism domestically and internationally, focusing on the Asian market, especially in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Singapore and Indonesia are our main targets,” he said during a meet-and-greet with the media at the Tourism Selangor office here today.
A report by The Edge Malaysia said the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council stated the domestic healthcare travel industry recorded a revenue of over RM900 million for the first half of 2023.
Ng said the usage of social media, especially TikTok, will be one of the platforms for reaching a larger audience.
“We will ensure all of our social media platforms will be fully utilised. We will enhance all of the apps, including TikTok, since youngsters nowadays prefer to watch short videos.
“We will approach local influencers and cooperate with them for (content) on TikTok, especially in introducing destinations, products and local delicacies,” he said.
Earlier, Ng outlined several plans for Selangor tourism, including campaigns with industry players and promoting the “Nak Bercuti? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” initiative via the 160 Smart Selangor Buses operating in the state.
