Bandar Baru Klang rep focuses on infrastructure, health, among others

SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — Infrastructure, education, healthcare, and the people’s welfare will be the main focus of Bandar Baru Klang state assemblyman Dr Quah Perng Fei.

He said his experience as a Klang Municipal Council (MPK) councillor is an advantage which allows him to understand and address the people’s issues.

“During the last state election campaign, one of the issues residents frequently raised was the local infrastructure, both in public areas and in schools around Bandar Baru Klang.

“Currently, we are collaborating with MPK to upgrade drainage systems in flood-prone areas, and we are also repairing potholed roads in Kapar,” Dr Quah told SelangorKini.

On his state constituency’s preparations for the upcoming monsoon season, he said their team is always ready, and they have identified temporary relocation centres (PPS).

“We have identified PPS to accommodate flood victims if a disaster occurs in the near future,” Dr Quah said.

He added that Bandar Baru Klang regularly organises health screening programmes to raise local residents’ awareness about the importance of prevention.

Meanwhile, 2,000 Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) initiative vouchers will be distributed to recipients in the state constituency this Sunday (October 22).

Dr Quah said the distribution would occur at the second level of Klang Parade shopping centre, starting at 11am.

“Eligible recipients should be present to redeem the vouchers on that day, which they can use to make direct purchases at the same location. We hope this contribution from the state government will ease the recipients’ burdens,” he said.

Similarly, applications for the RM200 Jom Shopping Deepavali vouchers are still open and can be applied for at Bandar Baru Klang’s community service centre.

“We have prepared 400 vouchers this year and will identify only eligible recipients who can benefit from this aid.

“Applications are still open, and those interested can come to our service centre with complete documents, including their identification card and the latest salary slip,” Dr Quah said.

Previously, state executive councillor for poverty eradication V. Papparaidu said 22,000 shopping vouchers were provided for this year’s Deepavali, at a RM4.4 million allocation.

Each state constituency, including 22 Opposition constituencies, receives a quota of 300 to 600 vouchers, depending on the Indian population in their respective areas.

The 2023 Selangor Budget allocates RM16.48 million for the Jom Shopping voucher programme for various celebrations, benefiting 82,400 recipients.

Aside from Deepavali, this assistance programme is also provided to economically disadvantaged families to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri and the Chinese New Year in purchasing essential items.
