Over 3,000 schools gazetted as flood relief centres

PASIR PUTEH, Oct 7 — More than 3,000 schools nationwide have been gazetted as flood relief centres in preparation for the natural disaster, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

The Education Ministry (MOE) flood committee also met with the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to coordinate preparations for the centres.

“The schools that have been gazetted as flood relief centres are ready, InsyaAllah, we pray things will be simplified; most importantly, we need to remind students and teachers to always take care of their safety in facing this test,” she said.

Fadhlina was speaking at a press conference after opening the Agrotek Madani@KVKPM 2023 Carnival at the Pasir Puteh Vocational College today.

Also present was Education director-general Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali.

Commenting further, she said MOE will also establish a flood control room to monitor the situation of the gazetted relief centres.

“We will also improve the facilities at the centres and conduct preparatory training.

“In terms of operations, for example, asset transfer, if MetMalaysia issues a forecast, we will transfer the assets immediately. We have also prepared plastic chairs and tables to make it easier and guarantee safety,” she added.
