SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has received 564 complaints on vacant houses and poorly maintained vacant land so far.
Deputy Mayor Datuk Aznan Hassan said out of this figure, 320 were received last year, with the remaining 244 received starting this year until September.
“Various enforcement actions are being carried out per the Local Government Act 1976 and the Small Estates By-Law (MBPJ 1999) to resolve the issue. Cleaning notices under Section 74 of the Act, requiring property owners to carry out cleaning works within the notice period, have also been issued.
“Furthermore, if the owners fail or refuse to comply with the notice, a compound not exceeding RM1,000 can be imposed,” he said during the full council meeting today.
MBPJ also carries out cleaning work on the lands if no action is taken, with the lot owner to bear all costs involved.
“We urge property owners to ensure that vacant houses and vacant lots are always clean and well-maintained, so as to avoid any penalties.
“Arrears review and settling existing bills can be referred to the Department of Health and Environment Services on Level 9 of Menara MBPJ,” Aznan said.
