PKPS’ products to penetrate Middle East market after MoU with Egyptian firm

By Sofia Nasir

SHAH ALAM, Oct 28 — Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation’s (PKPS) Ehsan products are primed to enter the Middle East market in a positive move that is set to promote the brand at the international level.

This is following the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the state agency and Egypt food supplier Greenery For Agricultural Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (Greenery) yesterday.

State executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim said the move will open up the import and export market between the two countries for products like dry food and fruits, in addition to the sharing of agricultural technology.

The import of Egyptian products is also set to enhance food security in the state, he added.

“In the initial phase, we will focus on fruits. As of now, we have already made purchases valued at RM50,000 for pomegranates, which are extremely popular in Egypt, as well as sweet potatoes.

“This is among PKPS’ initiatives, and moving forward, we can expect more cooperations with local and foreign companies to further improve food security in Selangor,” he said after witnessing the MoU signing at the State Secretariat Building, here, yesterday.

PKPS was represented by its chief executive officer Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi while Greenery was represented by its managing director Elsayed Mohamed Abdelgawwad Elnaggar. Selangor state secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim was also present.

Izham said through this collaboration, the public will now have the opportunity to try out Egyptian food products at all PKPS’ outlets as well as Jualan Ehsan Rahmah programmes starting today.

He also assured that all agricultural products imported from the Middle Eastern country will be sold at affordable prices.

“We expect more products from Egypt to be sold here in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Khairil said on PKPS’ part, the agency will export goods like MD2 pineapples, jackfruits, and other ready-to-eat products to Egypt for a start.

“We aim to export five or six tonnes of goods per week,” he said.

On the same note, Greenery corporate advisor Heshameldin Fathi said the cooperation with PKPS offers an opportunity for his company to penetrate the Malaysian market.

He added that his firm has opted to collaborate with the state government considering Selangor’s position as Malaysia’s primary state on various fronts.
