Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup continues next year to find new football talents

SUBANG JAYA, Nov 7 — The Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup championship is the best platform to unearth new football talent in Selangor, said its organising committee chairman Datuk Emran Kadir.

He said this championship, inspired by His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Selangor, is now in its ninth year and will continue next year to discover more grassroots talents.

“Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj is deeply concerned about the development of the state’s football, and this championship continues to be a focal point for talent scouts.

“With strong support from the main sponsor, Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad, the district education offices, and local authorities throughout the state, they encourage us to organise the championship again next year,” said Emran, who is also Orang Besar Daerah Petaling.

He was speaking after the Cup’s under-18 final match at the MBSJ Arena Stadium yesterday evening.

32 secondary school teams participated in the championship, involving 576 young football players under 18.

Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad is its main sponsor, with a sponsorship worth RM150,000 under the Selangor Sports Stimulus programme (RSS).
