MB: Consistent pressure for ceasefire crucial to effectively move aid into Gaza

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — Persistent international pressure is crucial in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, which would enable the effective delivery of humanitarian aid to those gravely affected by the conflict, said Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Addressing the ongoing crisis, Amirudin pointed out that although numerous aid missions and supplies have been organised by the global community, including governments and aid organisations, their efforts are being hampered.

He said many of these aid convoys have been blocked at the Rafah Crossing, the primary crossing point between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

This assistance includes crucial medical supplies, including ambulances, funded by the state government, said Amirudin.

“The situation will not see any improvement until we can put an end to the war, which has already resulted in over 12,000 casualties.

“If we fail to contain the situation and ensure the delivery of necessary aid, we face the risk of even more losses,” he said in a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly today.

Amirudin’s statement follows an earlier meeting with Cinta Gaza Malaysia chief executive officer Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman and Malaysia Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (Mapim) head of humanitarian activist Dr Sani Araby Al-Kahery today.

The meeting focused on gaining current insights into the Gaza crisis and discussing the immediate aid requirements, explained Amirudin.

They also explored potential collaborations with the state government to provide assistance to Gaza in the aftermath of the conflict.

“However, peace must be achieved first before we can look at the formula to provide aid post-war,” he said.

Amirudin also highlighted ongoing efforts by the state government to identify and provide immediate aid, particularly food and medical supplies, to the people of Gaza.

He emphasised that these efforts are being coordinated through official channels to ensure effective and timely delivery of the assistance.
