GOMBAK, Nov 19 — The state administration is always open to criticism, including providing ample space for the Opposition to debate in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

However, he reminded them to discuss matters based on facts and figures instead of engaging in defamation which could lead to division.

“To the Opposition, continue to voice your concerns… in the assembly, I give space for the Opposition leader to debate. In fact, continue the debate until 7pm to allow everyone to speak, and the government will respond to all of the Opposition’s proposals.

“It is okay to criticise, but it has to be done correctly, not all the time. If everyone wants to turn everything into an issue, we will be divided and bring disaster and harm.

“Criticism is allowed, but it must be based on facts and figures, not defamation. Civilisation is not built on defamation,” he said at the officiation ceremony of the Madani Community Service programme in Taman Berlian yesterday.

The assembly session is expected to last for two weeks until November 24, starting with the presentation of the 2024 Selangor Budget on November 10.

The public can follow the session live via the SelangorTV website, as well as on the Facebook pages of Media Selangor and Amirudin Shari.

On October 19, the Sultan of Selangor decreed that assembly debates should be conducted orderly and in accordance with the rules, without using vulgar and disrespectful language.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj also reminded all quarters the assembly proceedings should not be marred by behaviour that can be considered uncivilised.
